Double digit price hikes by Npower
Npower- the fourth biggest energy supplier in the UK - has today announced double digit price hikes of 17.2% for gas and 12.7% for electricity. Annual bills will rise by an average of £95 for gas and £64 for electricity, pushing the average dual gas and electricity bill to more than £1000. There will be a regional variation in gas prices to mirror gas transportation costs with price rises varying from 15% to almost 24%. London and the East Midlands would have the highest increases. Other suppliers are predicted to follow suit shortly.

EDF is the latest utility supplier to put up its gas and electricity prices. Tariffs are to rise by 7.9% for electricity and 12.9% for gas. EDF has about 5.5m consumers in the UK.
British Gas has announced a hike in its gas & electricity prices by 15%. This follows increases from Npower and EDF Energy.
Scottish Power is the latest energy supplier to raise retail prices for gas and electricity by an average of 14.8%.
E.On, formerly known as PowerGen, is the latest power supplier to up its energy prices. Gas prices will rise by 15% and electricity prices by 9.7%.
Scottish and Southern Energy is the last of the big UK energy suppliers to announce double digit increases in gas and electricity prices. From April 1 gas bills rose by an average of 15.8% and electricity bills by an average of 14.25%.
Household energy bills could go up as much as 40% this winter adding up to £400 a year to gas and electricity bills.
Scottish & Southern Energy has hiked gas prices by 29.2% and electricity bills by 19.2%.
E.ON is raising gas bills by 26% and electricity by 16%.
Npower is increasing gas prices by an average of 26% and electricity by 14% with immediate effect.
Scottish Power is increasing gas prices by an average of 34% and electricity by 9% from September 1 2008.
